North Vancouver is alive with music this summer as the free Live & Local concert series returns. This event brings good vibes and live music to various outdoor spots across the city.

From July through August, local and visiting artists perform in parks and villages across North Vancouver. The concerts run from 7 to 9 p.m., giving everyone a chance to enjoy summer nights with friends and family without spending a dime.

Locations include Seylynn Park, Lynn Valley Village, Panorama Park, Lions Gate Village, Edgemont Village, and Ray Perrault Park. Each spot offers a unique atmosphere and multiple performances to match all music tastes.

Heather Turner, the recreation and culture director, said the series aims to connect people through live music. “It’s about bringing neighbors together to enjoy great music, meet friends, or make new ones,” she said.

The lineup features a mix of genres and talented artists. Here are some highlights you won’t want to miss.

On August 22, Coco Jafro will perform at Panorama Park in Deep Cove. Their music blends Moroccan funk, acid jazz, and Latin beats, creating a rich, global sound. The band’s leader, Amine Said, describes Coco Jafro as a kitchen mixing ingredients from around the world into a unique fusion dish. Their performance promises new songs alongside favorites, making it a perfect night to dance.

Bakara Band brings lively Persian pop to Lions Gate Village on August 28. The band leader, Milad Parpouchi, explained that music and dance are banned in Iran under the current regime. “We are thankful to perform freely here in Canada,” he said. Their energetic show is a celebration of joy and cultural connection, inviting everyone to join the dance.

Big City Soul, a nine-member band known across Metro Vancouver, will perform at Seylynn Park on August 7. Their mix of high-energy and classical tunes guarantees a fun night. Saxophone player Ken Abel, an original member, expressed excitement about returning to the concert series after a COVID pause. “We will play music that all ages can enjoy,” he said.

These concerts are just part of the full Live & Local schedule, which offers many more chances to enjoy free outdoor music this summer. The series continues the tradition of bringing the community together in a relaxed and fun setting.

Turner encourages everyone to come out. “Whether you want to dance or simply enjoy the music under the stars, these events celebrate community and good times,” she said.
