The Langley Arts Council is rolling out a new program aimed at giving artists in British Columbia more chances to grow. The art rentals and sales program will connect artists with businesses and public venues, allowing them to display and sell their work more easily.
The goal is to help both new and established artists by creating professional, income-generating opportunities. The program is designed to place local art in offices, community centers, public buildings, and similar venues throughout the province.
Claire Sarfeld, the executive director of the Langley Arts Council, said this project has been in development for several years. She explained that the council wanted to launch something long-term that benefits artists across the region.
According to Sarfeld, the aim is to make art more visible in everyday spaces. She believes that by putting local work in high-traffic areas, artists can reach new audiences and grow their presence.
Tinhorn Creek Winery, located in Oliver, is one of the program’s first clients. The winery plans to feature art in its tasting room in the coming months. It’s expected that other businesses will follow, giving even more artists a chance to shine.
Mini Claire, curator and gallery coordinator at the council, explained that both renting and buying options will be available. The public and businesses alike can choose artwork to display temporarily or purchase it for permanent placement.
She said the program is open to various types of businesses, including staging companies and interior designers. Offices, medical centers, and public institutions are also ideal locations for the artwork.
All available artwork will be listed online and can also be seen in person through the council’s gallery spaces. This dual format helps reach a wider audience, giving artists more exposure and increasing the chances of rental or sale.
The council believes the program will provide more than just financial support. Sarfeld explained that giving artists a platform to share their work helps them build their reputation. It also supports the broader arts community by making art more visible and accessible to the public.
The Langley Arts Council is currently accepting submissions for the 2026 edition of the program. Artists who live and work in British Columbia and identify as professionals are encouraged to apply.
Submission details, including eligibility and application guidelines, are available on the council’s official website. Artists can find the application portal and all required information at langleyarts.ca/submit/ars.
This new initiative reflects the council’s long-term mission to support local artists in practical and impactful ways. By offering sales and rental options, it not only helps artists generate income but also helps bring more culture and creativity into everyday spaces.
The program is expected to grow over time, with more clients and a larger collection of art available for viewing and purchase. The council hopes to make this a permanent and well-used resource for both the artistic and business communities across the province.
Through this effort, the Langley Arts Council is continuing its work to support creativity, foster artistic careers, and connect people with meaningful, original art in their daily lives.
